FLYING HIGH: Three plays (monologues) performed within one hour.  ‘Flying High” honors three minority and women aviation pioneers.

FLYING HIGH

“My Proudest Moment"

"My Proudest Moment" is one of three plays performed within one hour that make up the "Flying High" series.  "My Proudest Moment" is the story of Anne Morrow Lindbergh who overcame shyness, fear of flying and personal tragedy to partner with her famous husband charting air routes around the word.

"My Proudest Moment" is performed in conjunction with a monologue on Bessie Coleman and Neal Loving.  All three confronted formidable challenges and adversity.

The plays have been performed to enthusiastic audiences at historical societies, aviation museums and high schools.

Excerpts

“President Coolidge asked my father to head a panel to evaluate the future of aviation – about which my father knew absolutely nothing – that’s why he invited Charles to Mexico.”
                                             **

“It is fair to say we resented the constant intrusion of the press in our lives – and that the press resented our attitude.  Indeed – writers interpreted our wish for privacy as arrogance and aloofness.”
                                             **

“Tiny Charles – our beautiful, curly-haired baby – was kidnapped from his crib when he was just 18 months old.  Overnight the press became our ally.”
                                             **

“The trial was obscene – more like a show than a legal proceeding.  Broadway celebrities packed the courthouse and talked with newsmen from all over the world.”
                                             **

“Vendors hawked every imaginable item in the streets – including curls of hair they cruelly and wrongfully claimed to be our son’s.”
                                            **

“I appeal to your fairness to remember me, Anne Morrow Lindbergh, not as a tragic figure – or simply Charles Lindbergh’s wife – but rather for what I really was – a skilled aviator, navigator, explorer – a writer with something to say – and a full partner in developing commercial aviation throughout the world.”
